This is my favourite path to travel. A former railway line between Waterford and Dungarvan in the Sunny South East of Ireland, utilising some incredible pieces of civil engineering, natural wonders, even a National Monument (but we don’t want anybody knowing about that one).
From this point in Kilmacthomas, you travel around the foot of the Commeragh Mountains, through the Ballyvoille Tunnel, Durrow, The Ambush, Clonea and onto Dungarvan. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!
In the other direction is the City of Waterford, this section won’t be officially opened until early 2017, but parts of it are passable now. There have been some engineering complications in this direction because the train still uses the line between Kilmeaden and the City, but with the addition of some extra bridges, it should soon be complete.
So if you are ever in Waterford, bring your bike, you won’t regret it!
